Shiny Mirrors: How to Reflect God to those around us.

In an earlier writing, I talked about a television show where two men were dropped off in a remote area of the world and were given only a few days to either be rescued, or find civilization on their own. Early during the show they found a mirror and decided they would use it to signal for help, by reflecting sunlight in the direction of potential rescuers.

Much of the show was about them traveling through thick jungle, looking for the perfect spot to signal for help. They were mostly looking for a barren spot on high ground, so they could signal someone from many miles away, no matter if their would-be rescuers were by land, or by air. And that is exactly what they ended up doing. Near the end of the show, they were spotted by an airplane, which then radioed for a helicopter, and shortly after they were rescued!

I then posed a question to myself. What if it had been a cloudy day with no sunlight to reflect? The answer came fast and easy. They would have never been saved that day. I would now like to pose a second question. What if the mirror would have been so dirty it could no longer reflect sunlight? My answer is the same as I gave to the first question. They would have never been saved that day.

I will now reveal how this relates to our relationship with God. In the first lesson about these survivors, I used clouds as a metaphor for sin. I then gave an example of how Jesus Christ cleared the clouds of sin away, so we would no longer be separated from our Heavenly Father! Now I have another question, what if the “Son” is shining brightly, but our mirror will not reflect God to others. What could possibly cause our mirror not to reflect the “Son”?

I personally believe it’s because we spend too much time looking at ourselves in it! Smudging it up with our selfish misguided beliefs and values. And in this example our “Heart” is our mirror. Not our physical heart that keeps our blood flowing, but our spiritual heart where the issues of our life come from.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)

So, what's the answer? How can we solve the problem of our “Heart” not reflecting God's Light to those in the world around us?

First, we must get our own face out of the mirror, by surrendering our will for God’s Will. We will know God’s Will from reading our Holy Bible.

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

John 8:32 (KJV)

Second, we must keep our mirror clean. We do this by getting to know our Heavenly Father, by continuing to read our Holy Bible, praying to Him, and communing with Him. Then, as we begin to apply His Word in every area of our life, our faith in Him will become stronger and stronger. Allowing us to give thanks to Him for everything in our life.

Once we start living life in this manner. With the clouds of Sin out of way, and our mirrors all shined up. We will begin to reflect God’s Truth and Love to the entire world around us. Giving us a complete and total freedom we never dreamed possible, as we realize what it truly means to be Saved by the Son!

Thanks for reading today, and may God Bless you all.

Sincerely,
